What to wear to a January wedding in Missouri?
I'm from Arizona and I'm not used to whatever kind of weather Missouri will have in January. What sort of outfit could I wear to the wedding that will keep me warm but still look formal?
(I don't know what time the wedding is, I think it's at a church and I don't want to wear pants!)

As a St. Louis girl, I would recommend wearing whatever you would normally wear to a wedding. Since it's a winter wedding, wear tights or pantyhoes, closed-toed shoes, add a sweater or wrap to your outfit, and be sure to bring a nice, warm coat, hat, gloves and scarf (most nice wedding venues will have a coat check where you can leave these items). Be prepared for very cold, snowy, wintery weather. But, like another poster said, the weather here in the midwest can be very unpredictable... it might even be warmer than you expect! (Yesterday the temperature got up to 55 or so - pretty nice! Today the high was 22 and it's drizzling/snowing and icy!)
I swear by thick tights and boots. For instance, last month I went to an outdoor wedding (in Missouri! in November! with snow!) wearing a high black boots, a kind of mod red dress, and black tights. Under the boots I wore an unsexy pair of tube socks. That outfit was quite warm enough for the indoor reception. For the ceremony I added my black and white boiled wool coat and a cute hat.
Think about layers. For instance, you might sneak a close-fitting cami under a dress if you can do so unobtrusively. A LBD would look lovely with a bright cardigan and a pair of textured tights. If you're really expecting a cold day, try wearing more than one pair of tights. It's 13 here today, and I'm wearing two pair. If you're thinking about wearing a shawl, pick a nice thick pashima-style rather than a gauzy little thing.

Make sure your wear a coat, have gloves, and something to put on your head. You might consider slipping a pair of jeans or slacks under your party dress, and slipping them off in the bathroom before you go into the reception, or wearing a pair of pantyhose, and doing the same.
We here when the weather is bad wear a sturdy pair of shoes, change them to our party shoes in the bathroom or the foyer of the reception, we bring a couple baggies to slip them into so you won't soak any purses or leak water anywhere, if it is raining or snowing or sleeting[it did all three yesterday].
Bring something for your shoulders for the party if you are a cold type person, plenty of time to go find a shawl or a shrug or a jacket to carry.
PS, if the wedding is in a church, churches here are notorious for not turning up the heat in the winter. I have worn my coat through more than one church Xmas or New Years program. Make sure your bring your wrap.

If you wear a dress with thicker stockings you should be fine. Just don't wear any really thin material dresses. You could always get a half or 3/4 sleeve dress, knee length with boots and a nice thick stockings underneath that noone would see anyway. Take a warm coat and a pashmina to complement your dress and wrap yourself with that if you need to. All the best.
If you are inside you should be fine. Just bring a nice coat. Im pretty sure January is our coldest month! Bring plenty of warm clothes to wear while you are here. Maybe like a cute sweater dress or something.

It's sold in a blister pack with 2 tubes, one is red and one is black. Price is around $3.50 to 5 bucks
Mix same amount of red tube with black tube (I use a pc. of junk cardboard to squeeze the JB weld out onto and use an Ink pen that dont write any more to mix it together and to apply it)
Once mixed, just apply to back of your gens and sit them on your emblem.
If the emblem is still on the car, use duct tape to hold gem on till JB weld cures. It takes a good 10 hours for JB weld to fully cure.

I made a sweater for my cat, using a boughten one for a pattern. I have been worried about him feeling chilly lately, that's why I did that. He's been crawling under the covers with me. He's Siamese, and spent the first 7 years of his life in Arizona. Now that we have moved to Minnesota and he is a bit older, he seems to really feel the cool, damp weather. He's happily curled up in a ball, sleeping. Should I wake him up and take the sweater off him, because I may be paranoid, but something could happen with it on? A beer glass of two coffee-cup size was burst in to pieces with sharp bang suddenly in my kictchen of mobile home on last year in Mesa, Arizona. Room temperature was only about 93F. How could it be happening ? Nothing touched it at all. Only what I could suspect is that I had been using two Black%26amp; Decker ultrasonic pest repellants on the opposite side in the electric outlet of kitchen. Does it affect even to break a sturdy beer glass to peices like an explosion in only 93F degree of hot weather in the room of Arizona? This is still shocking and a mystery to me. In the physics, is there some theory in this kind of case of combination?

Glasses are under a lot of internal stresses, specially low cost ones. A small scratch could start these internal stresses to release, and the glass could easily shatter.

How do I keep my hair straight all day long?
I have a Conair flat iron and it was about $30. I use it about every day and usually after a few hours it will curve and "flip" at the ends and it never stays straight all day long like I want it to. my hair does the same thing..its usually from humidity and hot weather..i have a remington and it still does that to me too and i have yet to find something that works...try garnier anti-humidity cream..don't get the hairspray cause it just makes your hair feel weird..get like the milky cream stuff
It could be all sorts of things. It could be your flat iron.. the flat iron I use is great.. it is Paul Mitchell Pro Smoothing Ceramic Iron. It has many heat settings.. and in the manual it will tell you what heat setting you should have it on for your specific hair type.
But it very well could be the humiduty, considering you live in Arizona. So the first thing I would try is using a anti-frizz serum. But the product I use is Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum. It smooths and protects the hair, and it reduces blow-dry time, and it is also a heat protectant so your hair will always look healthy, and not fried from always straightening.

I have a chi that cost be about $200 when it first came out, and if it's humid my hair still curls, but not even a blow out from a stylist can survive a really humid day. I've started using kpak straightening balm when i do and it keeps my super curly hair pretty straight even if it is kinda humid. I'd still invest in a better straightener because they don't fry your hair as much and usually work better in the long run

I've been there many times...I was really knocked over on the the facilities...from the dorms, the athletic facilities, to the classrooms. They put / are putting / and contiue to put money into expanding their facilities.
The library is first rate and the computer lab was one of the biggest I've ever seen from taking college tours.
The W.P Carey School was voted one of the top business schools in the country. They also have many other excellent degree programs.
The have a few campuses with the Tempe being the main and largest. If you contact ASU...they have recruiting tours that go around the USA...we went to one and it was pretty informative. They also have a Facebook community where you can get a lot of your questions answered
Yes, I know, it has a party school reputation but, it was very very impressive. Besides, what school doesn't have some kind of reputation. Right now airfares are really inexpensive (especially Jet Blue) go there and take the tour...you won't be disappointed.
I would highly recommend it...you definitely get all that you pay for.

How do you get rid of or deal with scorpions in your home?
I live in Mesa, Arizona. I have been here about a year now, we moved from Colorado. Never in my life have I had to deal with scorpions until we moved here. Last summer I found one in my bathroom. Two months ago I found another one and now today I found one in my living room, it crawled out of the mop head as I was getting ready to mop. I am extremely clean, I vacume everyday, and mop at least once a week. I am petrified of scorpions. Not to mention I have a 13 month old who crawls all over the place, I'm worried that he might get stung. I seem to see them in my house as the weather gets hotter. I called my husband and told him I want to move out of Arizona because it has gotten me so scared. How do you get rid of scorpions? And how does everyone else out here live with them and not have a problem...please help?How do you get rid of or deal with scorpions in your home?

Should the NFL start considering putting the Super Bowl in cold climate cities from now on?
At first I didn't like the idea of a Super Bowl being played in cold weather, but I get sick of the Super Bowl being played in Miami, New Orleans, or Arizona all the time. Do you think they should start doing this from now on?

Also how about transportation and the like. If a day like the following February 10 2010 occurs the airports will be shut down and the driving conditions will be unsafe. They are taking a big chance on this possibly happening. In a warm weather city i.e. Miami, San Diego or Phoenix were this does not have a chance of ruining the day. This is a media extravaganza and is the biggest one day sporting event on planet Earth.

If they can play conference championships in inclement weather, why not the Super Bowl? Football is supposed to be played in the elements. I live in Southern California, but I had the opportunity to see a Patriot game at Gillette Stadium in December a couple of years ago. It snowed heavily the night before and it was freezing at the game. I had a great time and the bad weather added to a great gameday experience.
Gillette Stadium is a great Stadium, and as much as I would like to see a Super Bowl there, I don't think it is ever going to happen.
how about a medium weather city.. seattle doesn't get too cold, and mostly it is rain, it has an open stadium but not something that is gonna get buried

I live on the Gilbert side of the Gilbert-Chandler border. It's home to some of the best shopping in the Valley (not as good as Scottsdale, but still has a nice mall). I would assume that normal people live here, haha... But it's HOT. Arizona in general is hot, especially in the summer. We're freezing at 50 degree weather and 90 degrees is fairly nice. I think you have to be 15 yr. 6 mo. to get a drivers permit, and 16 to get your license. The schools in Chandler is supposed to be really good, but try to go to Hamilton High School out of all of the high schools. :)Is anyone from Chandler, Arizona? Or close to there?

In cold weather (night vs. day, in Arizona @40-70*f) I can feel a big differece in the power, and take off's. Okay; I know it's because no cold air intake, but I do have an after market intake, and filter, "S and B intake" goes to drives side. But the differnce in power can't be normal. It wasn't like this once. Like there's somthing else wrong, like some sensor.
If you know, may you explain breifly what to do my self. There is some sensor that's so hard to get to, like under intake manifold.

I live in a 900sf condo over a carport. I have a peaked roof w/ attic. My a/c bill is high during summer due to the heat from the carport and just 110 degree weather. Will an attic fan help lower my a/c bill? and what is the appx price for unit and installation. guesstimates would be expected.

The restaurant business is better here in the cooler months of the year when the Snowbirds arrive. They eat out more often having flown from their cold, northern snowy states.
You obviously have a computer so check Craigslist-Phoenix to get a feel for the job descriptions which are open in the area. You can also check on Monster and CareerBuilder.
The overall education ranking of Arizona is not good. We are almost at the bottom of the list.
The service industry is BIG in places like the Phoenix metro area %26amp; Scottsdale with resorts and casinos. Arizona is a big state, what part of the state are you moving to? The northern part is beautiful, but the job situation is not as great as Phoenix or Tucson. Schools are ok, not the best. But there are some great charter schools, you should look into them. Yes the climate is very conservative in some parts, but I think it's more libertarian overall.Should I move to arizona?

I have lived in Honolulu, Hawaii for over 10 years now and am thinking of relocating to Phoenix, ARizona because I have read on the internet that there are many affordable rentals there with prices half of that in Honolulu. I wonder if the people who are living in Phoenix, Arizona can tell me if that's true and what do you think of someone relocating from Hawaii to Arizona?? Do you think I would like it there and is it going to be a very big change for me?? The weather here in Hawaii is pretty much the same all year round like around the 80's F... I don't know if I will like or can stand the summer heat in Arizona. But, I have experienced the heat in Austin, Texas, and found that to be kind of unbearable as I don't even want to be outside but I felt better when I was inside a car with air-conditioner.. that's so funny- you are talking abotu the same cities I'm looking to move to. Never been to Austin, but that's a humid hot and I hear no one goes outside in teh summer there. Phoenix is hot, but it's a dry heat. LOTS and LOTS Of jobs. Don't expect to be able to buy a house though- expensive there! Why do you want to leave hawaii? I wanted to move there, but was afraid of island isolation and boredom. I like the amenities of big cities. Anyway, you can get a nice place in Phx by yourself for about $800 in nice areas (or spend as much as you want to - like anywhere). But around Tempe you can get a house with roomies too. My friend shares a 3 br rental house (his portion $300/month). Don't worry about jobs, just don't expect to land one before you relocate. Good luck!

The weather is much drier than HI, no water nearby which can be a negative. Also, the winter in HI was warmer than here in Phoenix. We were in Maui in Feb/Mar

I would stay, the property value in Hawaii is going to go up. In phoenix, however it is leveling off. True there are a lot of jobs, but housing isn't cheap.

Anyway, you can get a nice place in Phx by yourself for about $800 in nice areas (or spend as much as you want to - like anywhere). But around Tempe you can get a house with roomies too. My friend shares a 3 br rental house (his portion $300/month). Don't worry about jobs, just don't expect to land one before you relocate. Good luck!

The weather is much drier than HI, no water nearby which can be a negative. Also, the winter in HI was warmer than here in Phoenix. We were in Maui in Feb/Mar

I would stay, the property value in Hawaii is going to go up. In phoenix, however it is leveling off. True there are a lot of jobs, but housing isn't cheap.

If the pulses feel like they are strong and bounding, and if the hooves feel hot, it could be an episode of laminitis, which requires medical attention from the vet. I would also observe closely for even the slightest sign of lameness, or any change in stance such as holding the forelegs forward to get weight off of the toes, or bringing the hind legs underneath the body for the same reason.
Your vet can examine him for laminitis, as well as performing an overall physical assessment, and if needed, can draw blood samples to rule out various disorders.
I would observe him closely for any other signs, and measure his vital signs if you know how and have the equipment to do it. That way, all of the information you gather can be related to your vet over the phone, and the vet will advise you from there.
Sounds to me like he's just getting older, and if the temps are getting low at night, maybe it makes his "old bones ache".

I have lived in Arizona for about 13 years now and depending on what kinds of things you like to do and weather you prefer, it's hard to tell you. The Phoenix area has the most to do but it's blazing hot here during the summer (today was 113! plus the humidity ugh!) but if you work you can spend your weekend at the pool, salt river, or at a lake near by. There are also lots of waterparks. Activities will depend on your age but there are lots of things to do. If you like the cooler weather live up north flagstaff/sedona area or somewhere near the mountains. Lots of people that live here in PHX also have or rent cabins up north during the summertime. I have also lived more southeast where weather is a little cooler but not too much to do unless you love nature stuff.What is Arizona like?
Depends where you are coming from - Phoenix weather is great except for the blazing hot summers. Arizona gets lots of sun. the people tend to be much friendlier than in New England, lots of Mexicans, great Mexican food, lots to do, but their sales taxes are killers!! Jobs tend to be plentiful, but pay kind of depends on the job. I hate Phoenix traffic, groceries are more expensive than New England, most shopping is done in Phoenix because of its' variety. Prescott is a growing area and very nice. Flagstaff is growing a lot, has a large Native American population, very friendly, looks bigger than it is, 7000 ft elevation so definitely has winters. The state is very varied when it comes to vegetation. It is not all desert as some people tend to think it is, so you are sure to find someplace you like. And we tend to drive a lot more when we are in Arizona just to go shopping because small towns do not have as much as we like. But we love Arizona because we do not have to deal with New England winters.

i lived in arizona for 16 years, and i really loved it. the weather in phoenix is really hot, but it's a dry heat, so it doesn't feel as hot as it really is, whereas humidity makes it feel 10 times hotter. flagstaff is perfect, the spring and summer get into the upper 90s and then it snows in the winter, with a ski resort in town. it really depends on where you live. i lived in phoenix for 4 years, and theres a lot to do. there are tons of malls and waterparks, plus there are good family activities, like the arizona science center. all over az there is great food, the mexican is the best! i lived in flagstaff for 12 years, and it was fantastic. its a relatively small town, so there's not as much to do as in phoenix, but you can go to the mall, go ice skating, go to the movies, and go shopping in the awesome downtown area. the people in arizona are pretty nice, and they tend to be more liberal, especially in flagstaff where hippies are everywhere!
Phoenix is like an oven that can heat up to 2000 degrees!.......just kidding! but it is really hot now. The winter and spring weather are great. If it gets too hot for you, Prescott is only 1 1/2 away or you can drive farther north where it's even cooler with big green trees mountains and lakes. You miss those things living in Phoenix. The entire Phoenix area is kind of weird because you can be in an upscale neighborhood, drive a few blocks, and you're in the Ghetto. You just need to know what you want. I live in Peoria, it's really nice, but I have to drive pretty far to find a REAL Mexican food restaurant or Mexican grocery store. Phoenix really lacks cultural diversity. There's no "Italian Neighborhood" or "China Town". Everything is really spread out.

We have the Phoenix and Tucson areas... big cities with traffic congestion and all of the pros and cons you'd find in any big city. And then, there's Flagstaff and Prescott, Sierra Vista and many 'smallish towns' scattered around the State.
If you live in Phoenix, you're around five hours away from the ocean in San Diego, two hours north of Mexico and less than two hours away from mountainous Flagstaff. You can, literally, ski all morning in Flag, come back to Phoenix and sunbathe in the afternoon.
We have three excellent universities in Arizona, ASU, UofA and NAU in Flagstaff,
Phoenix boasts museums, festivals, theater, major sport franchises and just about any cultural outlet you could want. Our elementary and high schools are decent.
Weather in the southern and mid section of Arizona is hot.. very hot (100-117 degrees) throughout the summer (late May through late September). The winter months are heavenly.
In the northern Rim area, summers are comparatively cool and temperatures seldom climb past 85 degrees.
Arizona, as a whole, is in need of professionals (ie: teachers, nurses) as well as service workers. The payscale is low, compared to other areas but as our needs increase, it is getting much better.
Without knowing your exact circumstances, it's difficult to pinpoint any specific area or interest you might have.
Bottomline: other than the extreme summer temperatures in parts of Arizona, it is an "OK" place to live.
I have lived in Phoenix the last 2.5 years and can't wait to move to a better place. In the first year here we had at least 20 scorpions ( inside, not to count the ones from backyard), the second year it got better, we found around 7-8 inside
Because of these creatures and the heat you can't have the windows open during the night for about 5 months. You can say you have A/C, still you have to have some fresh air..
Trafic is bad,the air is so dry, the humidifier is a must. It is too hot for too long. you don't really have nice weather for more than 5-6 months. Whould I have known that, I woudn't had moved here, specially the scorpions, the endless horrible summer..

it is ok i have lived here for 4 years, just to go to school i live in Tempe az, it is really nice if you are in school there are alot of bars in tempe and plus mill ave. Once school is out in the summer time tempe is dead. ASU is dead too no one is around plus it gets to about 110 everyday, the winters are really nice. if you dont like snow, but if you do could always go up to flagstaff for a weekend.

anyway it is like, required to have a pool in your backyard %26amp; people spend their time chilling there, or at the malls, or going to concerts/clubs/bars whatever... usual city stuff. but... if you're highschool/college crowd there are desert parties! which are sick.
but what i really like about phoenix is that everything is new. the city is growing super fast so people just keep building %26amp; builing. i LOVE california, just for the beaches, but some of their roads/highways/traffic is just shitty. not in phoenix... even the ghetto areas look "nice"... well sort of. haha
Pros: Jobs, housing, beautiful sunsets, unique desert flair to the houses and buildings, 6 or 7 big malls and tons of restaurants, nice people, nice weather all the time except for the summer, 3 major universities, home swimming pools, and good night life.
Cons: Road construction, summer heat, traffic, pollution
Try to keep away from the Mesa area and it's great.
As for the weather: think of how hot hell might be. Southern Arizona is about 10 degrees hotter. People here are... different. Just yesterday there was an article in the newspaper talking about how weird people in Arizona are. We're just... not normal. As for the activities, the only thing that you should do in the summer is shopping. Why? Because most stores have a/c. I may have a slightly skewed view of this place because I've been forced to live here my whole life, and that's enough to drive anyone insane =)
its probaly one of the greatest placest to live except for the heat, which i dont think is really bad because im used to it and if you like getting tan and stuff like that its great!!! we dont have hurricians, tornados (we get warnings but the never happen) we get beautiful sunsets and the storms in the summer are sometimes huge! haha its a great place though

Depends where you are coming from - Phoenix weather is great except for the blazing hot summers. Arizona gets lots of sun. the people tend to be much friendlier than in New England, lots of Mexicans, great Mexican food, lots to do, but their sales taxes are killers!! Jobs tend to be plentiful, but pay kind of depends on the job. I hate Phoenix traffic, groceries are more expensive than New England, most shopping is done in Phoenix because of its' variety. Prescott is a growing area and very nice. Flagstaff is growing a lot, has a large Native American population, very friendly, looks bigger than it is, 7000 ft elevation so definitely has winters. The state is very varied when it comes to vegetation. It is not all desert as some people tend to think it is, so you are sure to find someplace you like. And we tend to drive a lot more when we are in Arizona just to go shopping because small towns do not have as much as we like. But we love Arizona because we do not have to deal with New England winters.
I have lived here in Phoenix all my life, im 21 and i love it here! There is an awesome nightlife and plenty things to do. I love that we can practically have fun in the sun all year round! People do tend to be a little on the crabby side, due to the heat but for the most part it just depends on what part of Arizona u plan to live in.. As for food, i mean we have probably the same kinds of food like everywhere else, however we do have a lot of little Mexican food places.. i lived in arizona for 16 years, and i really loved it. the weather in phoenix is really hot, but it's a dry heat, so it doesn't feel as hot as it really is, whereas humidity makes it feel 10 times hotter. flagstaff is perfect, the spring and summer get into the upper 90s and then it snows in the winter, with a ski resort in town. it really depends on where you live. i lived in phoenix for 4 years, and theres a lot to do. there are tons of malls and waterparks, plus there are good family activities, like the arizona science center. all over az there is great food, the mexican is the best! i lived in flagstaff for 12 years, and it was fantastic. its a relatively small town, so there's not as much to do as in phoenix, but you can go to the mall, go ice skating, go to the movies, and go shopping in the awesome downtown area. the people in arizona are pretty nice, and they tend to be more liberal, especially in flagstaff where hippies are everywhere!
Phoenix is like an oven that can heat up to 2000 degrees!.......just kidding! but it is really hot now. The winter and spring weather are great. If it gets too hot for you, Prescott is only 1 1/2 away or you can drive farther north where it's even cooler with big green trees mountains and lakes. You miss those things living in Phoenix. The entire Phoenix area is kind of weird because you can be in an upscale neighborhood, drive a few blocks, and you're in the Ghetto. You just need to know what you want. I live in Peoria, it's really nice, but I have to drive pretty far to find a REAL Mexican food restaurant or Mexican grocery store. Phoenix really lacks cultural diversity. There's no "Italian Neighborhood" or "China Town". Everything is really spread out.

We have the Phoenix and Tucson areas... big cities with traffic congestion and all of the pros and cons you'd find in any big city. And then, there's Flagstaff and Prescott, Sierra Vista and many 'smallish towns' scattered around the State.
If you live in Phoenix, you're around five hours away from the ocean in San Diego, two hours north of Mexico and less than two hours away from mountainous Flagstaff. You can, literally, ski all morning in Flag, come back to Phoenix and sunbathe in the afternoon.
We have three excellent universities in Arizona, ASU, UofA and NAU in Flagstaff,
Phoenix boasts museums, festivals, theater, major sport franchises and just about any cultural outlet you could want. Our elementary and high schools are decent.
Weather in the southern and mid section of Arizona is hot.. very hot (100-117 degrees) throughout the summer (late May through late September). The winter months are heavenly.
In the northern Rim area, summers are comparatively cool and temperatures seldom climb past 85 degrees.
Arizona, as a whole, is in need of professionals (ie: teachers, nurses) as well as service workers. The payscale is low, compared to other areas but as our needs increase, it is getting much better.
Without knowing your exact circumstances, it's difficult to pinpoint any specific area or interest you might have.
Bottomline: other than the extreme summer temperatures in parts of Arizona, it is an "OK" place to live.
I have lived in Phoenix the last 2.5 years and can't wait to move to a better place. In the first year here we had at least 20 scorpions ( inside, not to count the ones from backyard), the second year it got better, we found around 7-8 inside
Because of these creatures and the heat you can't have the windows open during the night for about 5 months. You can say you have A/C, still you have to have some fresh air..
Trafic is bad,the air is so dry, the humidifier is a must. It is too hot for too long. you don't really have nice weather for more than 5-6 months. Whould I have known that, I woudn't had moved here, specially the scorpions, the endless horrible summer..
Houses are cheaper- one good thing , but I will give away my house for a appartment in San Francisco /Seattle
it is ok i have lived here for 4 years, just to go to school i live in Tempe az, it is really nice if you are in school there are alot of bars in tempe and plus mill ave. Once school is out in the summer time tempe is dead. ASU is dead too no one is around plus it gets to about 110 everyday, the winters are really nice. if you dont like snow, but if you do could always go up to flagstaff for a weekend.
i've lived in a lot of different cities around the US %26amp; Phoenix is my fav. esp for a large city. don't get me wrong.. i mean the weather is terribly hot like 2 months out of the year but besides that it is perfect. people are generally nice... you've got a lot of people moving in from Cali because it's getting ridiculously expensive over there. you've got a LOT of suburban families. some old money... some cowboys (lol but that's the older crowd). %26amp; there are some really snooty people that live in scottsdale.
anyway it is like, required to have a pool in your backyard %26amp; people spend their time chilling there, or at the malls, or going to concerts/clubs/bars whatever... usual city stuff. but... if you're highschool/college crowd there are desert parties! which are sick.
but what i really like about phoenix is that everything is new. the city is growing super fast so people just keep building %26amp; builing. i LOVE california, just for the beaches, but some of their roads/highways/traffic is just shitty. not in phoenix... even the ghetto areas look "nice"... well sort of. haha
Pros: Jobs, housing, beautiful sunsets, unique desert flair to the houses and buildings, 6 or 7 big malls and tons of restaurants, nice people, nice weather all the time except for the summer, 3 major universities, home swimming pools, and good night life.
Cons: Road construction, summer heat, traffic, pollution
Try to keep away from the Mesa area and it's great.
As for the weather: think of how hot hell might be. Southern Arizona is about 10 degrees hotter. People here are... different. Just yesterday there was an article in the newspaper talking about how weird people in Arizona are. We're just... not normal. As for the activities, the only thing that you should do in the summer is shopping. Why? Because most stores have a/c. I may have a slightly skewed view of this place because I've been forced to live here my whole life, and that's enough to drive anyone insane =)
its probaly one of the greatest placest to live except for the heat, which i dont think is really bad because im used to it and if you like getting tan and stuff like that its great!!! we dont have hurricians, tornados (we get warnings but the never happen) we get beautiful sunsets and the storms in the summer are sometimes huge! haha its a great place though

Well I went once when I was little.
It was hot outside and stuff, we went to the cotton fields for fun and checked out the cotton. It was pretty cool.

Our "rainy season" is July/August which is when we get severe thunderstorms, lightening storms, dust storms, and flash floods.
Most of the time though, the skies are clear with a light breeze. I love to hike a mountain at that time and just take in the beauty. Sometimes the summer months are a little unbearable; just don't drive a car with leather seats and stay hydrated.

I'm new to Arizona and I've been looking at weather/rainfall. I've seen that in a month there might be 2-3 inches of rainfall and I've heard about flooding, etc. 2-3 inches?! That's nothing! I lived in New Jersey and there are 2 occasions where there was significant flooding, etc. Both of those cases there were about 9-12 inches of rainfall.

If you had 50mm of rain in fifteen minutes over an area 10km X 10km (a small thunderstorm), that is 50,000cubic metres of water or 20 Olympic swimming pools dumped on the ground in 15 minutes. The State itself is beautiful with the mountains and there is so much to do here all year round, from: hiking, mounting biking, horseback riding, rock climbing, caving, rafting, canoing, fishing, hunting, golfing and there are plenty of ski resorts such as Aspen, Winterpark, Loveland and Breckenridge.
If you love the outdoors you will love Colorado.
Not only that but you have the hot springs, national parks, amusements parks, zoos and museums. There are also plenty of historical and heritage sights to visit.
Just think of coming home from work or school and within 30-45 minutes you could be in the Mountains.
The weather is also really great, here you get all four-seasons, warm summers and although it can become quite cold during the winter months, this is usually very mild. Another plus point is that there is practically no humidity, which is a bonus when you are out and about enjoying all of those outdoor activities.
The public transport system in the Denver-Aurora and Boulder Metropolitan area is more than adequate compared to those of a lot States, with plenty of buses and 6 light rail lines, which are a God-send if you don't drive.
The people, from my own personal experience I have found to be very welcoming, polite and friendly all round. One example of this is in my local bar, never have I found a place where British, American, Irish, Russian and Australians of all colors, gender and race have sat down together and had a great times. We now meet up a few times a week for drinks and live very close together downtown.
Interracial couples are accepted, there will only be the narrowed minded ones who will look down on this, but you get those kind of people wherever you go, but they are the vast minority.
Colorado as actually one of the highest proportions of Hispanic residents of any U.S. state, Denver and some other areas have significant Mexican populations, while southern Colorado has a large number of Hispanos.
I have also visited Arizona on a few occasions, namely Phoenix, Chandler, Tempe and Paradise Valley and while they are great places in their own right, I just didn't get the same feeling I got when I came to Colorado. The weather didn't appeal me, temperatures are often in the high 90's and during the summer months you are lucky if it comes below 100. It is also very dry. I also don't like that Arizona is a very vehicle-driven state, public transport is rather poor and nothing is in walking distance, although a light rail system is being built for late next year.
Saying all that, I still like Arizona and I do still visit but I would never move there, I prefer Colorado by a country mile!

I'm from Chicago and have lived here almost 15 years. Looks like you wrote my script as to why I moved here!! Add 341 days of sunshine on average each year and the ability to hike, camp, swim, party, water ski and snow ski on the same day in the Spring... just adds to the mystic of our state...
And, yes, you do get use to the summer heat, but you can also jump in a car and head up North and watch the Temp's drop into the 70's during the day in a less then 90 minute ride if you really need to cool off.....-)

I thought I liked it too. Until I moved here, now I freakin hate it. The landscaping sucks it's just tan blah gravel. No luscious green grass to roll around it, no pretty trees or flowers (unless the state planted them next to the highway). It's way too hot in the summer- I had to turn my air conditioner on in March that's just ridiculous. The people are awful- so much crime. There is absolutely no culture or diversity- the only culture here is Mexican. Mexican style architecture, Mexican food, hell half the radio stations and store signs are in Spanish! I'm from Chicago and have lived here almost 15 years. Looks like you wrote my script as to why I moved here!! Add 341 days of sunshine on average each year and the ability to hike, camp, swim, party, water ski and snow ski on the same day in the Spring... just adds to the mystic of our state...
And, yes, you do get use to the summer heat, but you can also jump in a car and head up North and watch the Temp's drop into the 70's during the day in a less then 90 minute ride if you really need to cool off.....-)

I thought I liked it too. Until I moved here, now I freakin hate it. The landscaping sucks it's just tan blah gravel. No luscious green grass to roll around it, no pretty trees or flowers (unless the state planted them next to the highway). It's way too hot in the summer- I had to turn my air conditioner on in March that's just ridiculous. The people are awful- so much crime. There is absolutely no culture or diversity- the only culture here is Mexican. Mexican style architecture, Mexican food, hell half the radio stations and store signs are in Spanish! i like it here cuz its big and there is also so much going on so your never bored. I have the hot weather tho im from montana so i love the cold. i dont like that there is so much crime and stuff and that border patrol is everywhere it makes you feel unsafe!

I am joining my sister in Scottsdale, Arizona, and I heard it is pretty hot up there.

From about May 15th to October 1st in a NORMAL year it's over a 100 degrees almost every day. A "Hot Day" in the Summer here- is over 110 (we had 32 of those- last year). And a VERY Hot Day- is anything over 115 (we had 2 or 3 of those last year- too). Summer nights are in the 80s %26amp; 90s (%26amp; THAT's when most people come out- %26amp; do their shopping). The Winters ARE Beautifull Here- with daytime temps from 55 to 70 , and 35 to 45 degrees at night. AND, if we're REALLY lucky, it'll rain once or twice a month- all year (Rain is a BIG DEAL Here. Anyone who complains about Rain - is Arrested, Charged, %26amp; Sentenced- to Three weeks on a Highway Asphalt Crew- in JULY!!! Most of the perpetrators- don't "make it"- to August). So it's YOUR Skin... And if you think it's Red NOW...... :0 !Should I live in Arizona?
phoenix and suburban cities are wonderful areas and places to visit or live in. the people are friendly. there is lots to do especially if you like to shop and go out to eat. the scenery is beautiful.

fortunately though when i graduate high school in june i'm moving in with them xD

People are really underestimating. The temperatures taken (those forecasted and posted) are taken it the shade at sky harbor aiport; thus, in the sun it will be about 10 - 15 degrees hotter always. My mom always kept a thermometer in the sun in our backyard to compare the differences when I was growing up. It is not uncommon for the temp to be as high as 120 and I've seen it as high as 130, these numbers are just not commonly reported. Chances are you will adjust to the heat, but if it makes you ill, I would not recommend a move out there.

Where are there no natural disasters?
The midwest can have tornadoes, the Gulf of Mexico area can have hurricanes, California can have earthquakes, etc... Either in the US or in the World, where are there no natural disasters? This can include extreme temperatures that causes deaths as well... Does such a place exist where nobody dies due to the weather? I live in Arizona and it's pretty disaster-free, but we can have extreme heat and flash floods and people can die in small numbers due to those.Where are there no natural disasters?
I live in Cedar City, Utah, which is in southern Utah, and it's pretty mild here as far as weather and disasters. We did just get 12 inches of snow, but I'd hardly call that a disaster. We rarely get storms of any kind here though, no threat from tsunamis as the ocean is 6 hours away, and all the volcanoes around here are extinct. The only thing we have to worry about is a fairly dormant fault line that goes through the middle of town that could come to life, produce a huge quake, and KILL US ALL!!! I don't see that happening any time soon though.
The guy above me is right though, no one is safe from a meteor hit, even though the odds of that happening are extremely unlikely!
Phoenix probably comes pretty close to be the safest place to live in the USA from natural disasters. The central states of the USA are relatively free from tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis. However, if extreme heat and cold are risk factors, that leaves a temperate zone in the central states, and Phoenix is just south of it. Perhaps Sedona, the famed Vortex Country just north of Phoenix, is the ideal place to live? Taos in New Mexico, maybe? Even if you found some place that is supposedly safe from all the aforementioned risks, a meteorite could strike there. There is no place on earth where a meteorite cannot land. Sweaters or sweatshirts, a heavier coat, a couple pairs of shoes, make sure one is fairly warm so if it's cold, you're feet don't freeze. You will have to dress warm. In November it's usually mid to low 40's and cooler by the lake. It depends where you go really, but most places away from Lake Michigan will be mid 40's. Okay so my parents are thinking of us moving to another state and my dad reallyy likes Arizona mostly because of the weather. Right now we live in Oregon and if you've ever lived or visited Oregon then you'd understand why we want to go to somewhere warmer. Rain, rain ,rain!

Is it a good place to live for a family? Idk but whenever i think about it i imagine a desert sort of place without much people... lol is it like that?

Like most cities, your life experiences and the quality of your life will match your mom/dad's ability to afford a nice neighborhood. If you can live in the Cactus Corridor and attend Chaparral High School you will love it. The school is good, kids smart and achievement oriented. If you have to live in a poor neighborhood, life becomes less pleasant.

If you are at least 15 years and 6 months of age, you may be issued a motorcycle instruction permit.
With a permit you are prohibited from carrying passengers and operating a motorcycle on freeways or interstate highways or between sunset and sunrise, or at any time when there is not enough light to clearly see persons or vehicles at a distance of 500 feet.
