Arizona is for the most part protected from the more volatile air masses and storm systems. The mountains to the west and to the east shield Arizona from a lot of moisture which in turn limits severe thunderstorm potential, and the Rocky mountain chain to the east shields Arizona from the bitterly cold air masses that drop out of Canada. Heavy snows do fall on the northern plateau during winter. Most of the more extreme weather occurs during El Nino winters since that pattern tends to allow storm systems to track across Arizona at a higher frequency than otherwise normal. Why is there never realy bad weather in arizona?
Where Arizona is located, it is in a rain shadow from the mountains on the West, so storms coming off the pacific will die out before passing over the Rocky Mountains. Why is there never realy bad weather in arizona?
