Attic Fans in Arizona?

I live in a 900sf condo over a carport. I have a peaked roof w/ attic. My a/c bill is high during summer due to the heat from the carport and just 110 degree weather. Will an attic fan help lower my a/c bill? and what is the appx price for unit and installation. guesstimates would be expected.

ThankyouAttic Fans in Arizona?
The purpose of an attic fan is to lower the temperature of the attic to 1) extend the life of the roof, and 2) reduce the radiant heat flow into the ceiling of the home.

An attic fan is mounted on the roof, or less frequently (and less effectively) in the end gable. It draws air through soffit (eaves) vents and exhausts it through the roof ventilator. The lowest temperature will be the outdoor temperature (hot in Phoenix) which is still cooler than the intense heat generated in the attic. A solar powered roof ventilator should be energy neutral, while an AC powered ventilator may consume as much energy as it saves in air conditioning expense.

A whole-house fan is cut through the ceiling into the attic space and is used to draw cooler night air from outdoors into the house and out through the attic. It works so long as the outside temperature is cooler than the inside temperature. (That is probably December or January in Phoenix).

And then you must ask if your HOA will allow the visual or noise of the power ventilator to be installed.

Perhaps the most efficient expenditure would be to add insulation to your attic to achieve a higher R value, or resistance to heat flow, install the most energy efficient windows, and use insulated window treatments to reduce heat gain through the glass.
