How different is arizona from california?

i have lived in northern california my whole life, but im considering college in arizona. and my dad also told me he is considering retiring to arizona after i graduate from high school. i'm just wondering how different arizona is from northern california and if i would like it or not. i know the weather is a lot hotter in the summer and i'm okay with that. i'm more concerned about the people, things to do, the lifestyle, etc. i don't want a complete culture shock, but i'm willing to make adjustments.

any feedback will help

It depends where in Northern California you live. Arizona is generally very spread out and sparsely populated, and even the largest cities like Phoenix are nowhere near as lively and exciting as, say, San Francisco. If you live in a rural area of California, then it won't be much of a difference for you. Arizona has a lot to do in terms of nature and the outdoors and such, but is lacking in city life. How different is arizona from california?
I've lived in Arizona for ten years. There is a bunch of things to do if u like outdoors and hot weather. Theres a a Lot of hiking and mountain biking. That's why I like it hereHow different is arizona from california?
The two most noticeable differences you will find is weather and politics.

Arizona will be considerably less humid so even very high summer temperatures will feel relatively tolerable, but you will want air conditioning in your dwelling and your car.

Arizona is much more conservative politically than California. Much of the "liberal" nonsense that goes on in California would be frowned upon in Arizona. It is a more "law and order" state.

You will get a much better education in an Arizona college. It isn't that far away. Why not take a few days to visit the city you would be going to school in and check it out for yourself. I think you would probably like Arizona, and that lower cost of living would be a welcomed bonus.
