A chihuahua should NEVER be out-of-doors unsupervised. Not only is there danger due to temperature extremes, but also they are small enough to be carried off by a bird of prey, and can often squeeze through gaps in a fence that you wouldn't think possible. Also, highly desirable small purebred dogs are stolen out of backyards fairly regularly in most places, and there's also danger from neighbors annoyed with dogs' barking tossing poisoned food over the fence and the like. They can be out during any weather as long as you are out there with them and they appear comfortable.
47 F Degrees is not cold to a dog unless it is a shaved animal OR a hairless breed. Where I live the temperature spread is MINUS 40-45 F Degrees in the Winter up to PLUS 95-95 F Degrees in the Summer. My dog is out a minimum of two hours every day except when the temperature drops below MINUS 10 F Degrees and my cats are regularly gone exploring/hunting for 5-6 hours regardless of the temperature.

You have a delicately built dog that is not well known for it's ability to retain body heat, but 47 F Degrees should not adversely affect him and he certainly is not going to die of exposure. And as long as the dog has proper shade and fresh water he should be able to endure temperatures into the low 90 F Degree range. What weather to keep my dog outside?
Oh boy, why do you want to keep him outside? I say with a sweater he could stay out for approx 30 minutes but no more. They are really small dogs and chihuahua's have a hard time regulating there body temperature. They run about 101 on the normal and can not over heat to over 105 that causes death, so in the summer they will die easy if left out in the hot, hot arizona sun. Why not get him a crate in the house?
?? You've got a dog the size of a gerbil, and he should NEVER be left outside at all! Why would your parents do this? It's not the weather so much - it's everything else that could happen to him. These are incredibly fragile animals. Your parents need a much better understanding of pet ownership. What weather to keep my dog outside?
dogs, especially dainty little dogs like chihuahuas should not be kept in extreme conditions. summer is HOT and ur dog would not wanna b outside. 47 degrees is way 2 cold for a dog 2 be kept outside (but not 2 cold 2 die). the temp. should be about 65 degrees minimum and 75 degrees max
Well that's not very cold but for a chihuahua it is. Anything colder could be hard on theanimal anything hotter then 90 would be a little tough without water. This is a small dog why can you not have it inside? Why do you have a dog if you can't look after it.
It is not summer time in Arizona it is winter. And 47 degrees is a bit cold for a chihuahua to be left out 24/7. Why in the world would you leave a little bit of a dog like that out side any time.
A chihuahua is a very small dog which should never be left outside alone for very long. They can die of exposure or an animal or bird could come into the yard and kill it.
Smaller dogs are best kept indoors, especially in extreme weather conditions.
Chi's can't handle cold at the best of times. That temp would problably do her in.
you should not own a dog
