A horse and her foal have been out side and the Mare has had a hot blanket and mask on in the Hot Humid weather.. Is this a usual Practice for Horse owners?Why would someone keep a horse blanket and fly mask on a horse continually in heat and humidity in Arizona????
The blanket the horse has on is most likely a mesh fly sheet. They do not usually make the horse hot and are used to keep the flies off the horses.
The mask is also used to keep flies out of the eyes and ears.
This is usually a good horse practice. I keep fly masks and fly sheets on my horses. If you dont use the mask they get bug bites in their ears and their eyes get very irritated.
